This 18 year old hotel planned to undergo a refurbishment. From the creation to scheme design boards through to the sourcing and supplying of items, Elite helped Traquair create their vision.
Traquair Arms Hotel has been owned and managed by David since his purchase of the property nearly 18 years ago. A 200-year-old coach house, the building itself has a great deal of unique character and warmth. Set within the scenic Scottish borders, with the near by River Tweed providing great fishing opportunities, it is the perfect spot for those wanting a few days away to explore the nearby landscape.
Traquair had previously worked with Elite, purchasing booth seating for within their gastro pub. They chose to return to Elite for the redecoration of their bedrooms. Our ability to create cohesive, flexible, whole room schemes appealed to the team at Traquair, helping to ease their workload while under-going renovation.
The Challenge Traquair Faced
Opened 18 years ago, many sections of this historic building were starting to look aged and worn around the edges. Due to the location, Traquair attracts a wide range of active travelers. Cyclists, hill walkers and those looking to take in the sights often travel to Traquair for a short stay, setting up camp for 2/3 days on average.
Traquair wanted to:
- Refresh and renovate their bedrooms
- Keep their warm, welcoming, family run feeling.
- Provide practical, comfortable space for their active residents.
- Keep a comfortable, luxurious feeling for those looking to relax.
Why Traquair Chose Elite
There are 2 main reasons why Traquair chose to work with Elite.
- Firstly, having worked with Elite, specifically Kirsti, before they knew what to expect from the team, our work ethic and product quality. We always work our hardest to ensure the best quality finish and design to help businesses grow.
- Secondly, we were chosen for our ability to create whole room design schemes. Traquair was busy undergoing renovation, while continuing to run their restaurants and host residents. Therefore, working with Elite had many benefits, with us managing the entire room design, specifying, sourcing and supplying of all items.
Our understanding of design as well as whole project management means we provide cohesive, care free room designs.
Kirsti worked with David to create a warm, neutral, Scottish inspired design scheme for their bedrooms. Striking, thistle motif wallpaper was used to provide a backdrop on one accent wall in each space. Full length, fixed headboards feature warm faux leather upholstery with large accent studding details. Zip and link bed bases provide flexible room configurations.
Soft furnishings include handmade bed runners and scatter cushions, echoing the colours of wood, walls and décor. Playful touches of word art, large clocks and soft coloured dried flowers create a more homely finish with a personal touch.
The talking point of these schemes come from the bespoke cabinetry. Handmade to order here in Scotland, the solid wood and iron cabinets provide open plan storage. Ample shelving, a clothing rail, dressing table space, shoe rack and drawers are all provided in these beautiful units.
Metallic details are continued through to the chairs. Traditional bistro chairs and stools and used to provide minimal, practical seating while putting on shoes or drying your hair. Where space allows, floor lamps and additional coffee table seating are provided to enhance the comfort within rooms.
These rooms create a calm, Scottish sanctuary for visitors to catch some rest while busy exploring the local area.
When asked to feedback on their experience with Elite, Traquair’s manager David added:
“I’d just like to say that, from phoning Elite to getting them through the door, has been a pleasure for a few reasons:
I knew what I wanted, but not how to get there.
The quality of material used throughout the refurnishing of the bedrooms and the restaurant was far superior than anyone else I looked at.
The price was extremely reasonable.
From an owner’s point of view, I found them very easy to work with, and their professionalism is second to none. Kirsti the project manager has loads of ideas, which when put together look absolutely first class.”
