Developing the Young Workforce Visit
Yesterday we were delighted to welcome a visit from S4 - S6 pupils from seven high schools across Renfrewshire as part of the Developing the Young Workforce event. The pupils were taken on a factory tour and shown how we manufacture our beds using a mixture of natural, synthetic and recycled materials, combining them together to make our exclusive Elite beds.
When purchasing products you often might not think of the work that has gone into making the product before it has reached you. The tour showed the pupils the hard work our amazing team puts into making each bed and soft furnishing and the amazing tools and machinery to help with the process. Each piece of machinery used at Elite has been custom built to perform a specific job in the manufacture of our mattresses, bases, curtains and blinds, if you look at one product it is amazing how many companies and people will be involved with the manufacture right back to the founding elements that go into the product, for instance each of our mattresses sold doesn't just support our 20 employees but the employees of our raw material suppliers and their raw material suppliers, the engineers who manufacture and maintain our machinery, the council who collect business rates to invest into areas that need it and so forth. The chain is far reaching and amazing to think about.
As the pupils start to think about future career prospects we encouraged them to think about joining SME businesses like ourselves, behind every door in Hillington Park there are many fantastic businesses like ourselves who are eager to employ enthusiastic young adults who are genuinely interested in their work. Sometimes smaller businesses can be forgotten about as larger business seek to employ with larger marketing budgets however working for a smaller business can be just as, if not more, rewarding as you can receive a more rounded career interacting with all aspects of the business.
The tour was completed with a walk around our restaurant, care and hospitality trade showroom led by our design and sales team Kirsti, Jackie and Betsy who discussed with the pupils the importance of correct fabric and product selection along with other insider knowledge of care and hospitality design that they have learnt throughout their careers.
A selection of pupils from across the schools will be chosen to come and work with us for a day towards the end of the year designing a hotel room and developing a new sustainable product. We look forward to working with the selected pupils.
