Bandrum Care Home – Case Study

Bandrum care home worked with an Interior Designer for this project, bringing in Kirsti to help source and supply all items required for their refurbishment. Using specialist contract materials and products, this case study highlights the importance of researching the quality of materials.

About the Customer

Bandrum nursing home is a family run private care home based in Dunfermline, Fife. With 2 homes over 19 acres of land, their home provides 24 hour, full time nursing care for their residents. Providing both sheltered living and more medical assistance, they balance providing comfort with the practicalities of supporting their guests’ physical needs.

The busy and at times intense requirements of the care environment means that high quality, specialty materials, and products were required for this project. Bandrum worked with an interior designer for this project. They were responsible for selecting the styles and material patterns. Our task was to bring together the designer’s vision with the practical requirements of the space, sourcing and supplying products to fit the mold.

The Challenge for Care Environments

The busy care environment where many residents have physical challenges with their grip and stability means that spills and accidents are very common. Although there are many wipe clean materials in the forms of synthetic materials, leathers etc, these are often uncomfortable, rigid and warm to sit on and use for prolonged periods of time. Replaceable, reusable chair covers are unsightly, medicinal and time consuming to remove and clean.

Bandrum Needed:

  • Easy to clean materials

  • Comfortable feeling on chairs

  • Stain resistance

  • Long lasting colour

  • Affordability

Looking for a higher end, comfortable alternative to these poor-quality materials, Bandrum were pleased to work with Elite and access our extensive fabric library. Our collection hosts a wide range of healthcare, contract specific materials. The materials selected for this project have built in, antimicrobial, stain resistant and waterproof finishes. Manufactured specifically for busy areas, the faux leather selected is built specifically to withstand the challenges of the care setting.

The Results

The interior designer aimed to add a more interesting finish to the comfortable chairs selected, opting for a contrasting back and arm panel, partnered with the wipe clean seat and back surface. Made to order here in the UK, we were easily able to provide the eye-catching design.

More than the fabrics, the styles of chair were also selected for their supportive frames, high back and snug arms, ideally excluding draughts to create a comfortable space for guests.  Adding a splash of pixelated colour with the fun scatter cushions also provides additional lumber support with a firm, synthetic filling selected by the customer.

We were pleased with the balance found between the practical and the aesthetic, providing functional, comfortable, stylish solutions for Bandrum. Following the work for the lounge and social spaces, we were pleased to be selected for further projects in the bedrooms and dining hall at this care home.

Feedback

Kirsti, the project lead for this work reflected on this work, adding:

“The spaces Bandrum have are so open and light with their vast windows and high ceilings, it was great to work with the owner & interior designer to create a really fresh furniture scheme to compliment this space. The Aston Faux Leather is a great choice, with a detailed, luxurious finish that would even suit a high-end hotel, with the practical cleaning and wear and tear durability needed for a care home setting.”

The customer and Managing Director of Bandrum added:

“We absolutely love the finished product. From the colours, to the materials, the furniture shapes and the textures. Elite where always available and very helpful at every step. We are delighted with our new furniture – it compliments our new unit beautifully. Thank you, Rachel Payne.”
